The 2023 Army Headquarters Garrison(AHQG), Warrant Officers(WOs), and Senior Non Commissioned Officers(SNCOs), competition have open in Abuja.
The five day competition is organized to improve leadership qualities, organizational ability and level of initiatives amongst Warrant Officers-and Non Commissioned Officers.
It is also aimed at evaluating the physical fitness and combat readiness of troops, evaluating troops confidence, team spirit and cooperation during operations.
Declaring the competition open, the special guest of honor, Brigadier General Arogundade Oyelade, charged the soldiers to take the competition seriously to achieve the visions of the Chief Of Army Staff(COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, for the Nigerian army especially at this time when the nations is bedeviled with insecurity.
Gen Oyelade, while commending the AHQG, for organizing the competition which he said is in compliance with the Nigerian Army forecast of events 2023, told the participants to ensure that the training commensurate with their ranks and status in the system given their number of years in service.
He said “The training must commensurate with your ranks status in the system I want to implore you all to leverage on the available training resources to bring your best forward in order to achieve the desires of the COAS for the Nigerian army especially in your endurance level, discipline and team spirit as you go through the rigors of the competition”.
Also speaking, the deputy director army physical training at the AHGQ, Lieutenant Colonel David Ezebuchie, said the competition assembled on June 6, and commenced a two weeks pre-competition training which featured Weapons handling, Obstacle course, map reading, drills and swimming.
He said a total of three teams drawn from the Army Headquarters Department and other formations within the AHQG, would be competing for the weeklong event.
The weeklong training competition ends on Friday.
