Chief Executive Officer of AGCOMS International Trading Limited, Chijioke Okoli, has said that Nigeria’s path to agricultural transformation lies in embracing advanced mechanisation technologies and aligning with global best practices.

Speaking at the NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa, Africa’s largest agricultural trade fair, Okoli said that despite Nigeria’s historically low mechanisation levels, recent policy shifts signal a promising future for the sector.

“It’s vital for the world to know that, despite Nigeria’s current mechanisation challenges, the prospects are bright. The strong emphasis by the Tinubu administration on expanding tractor usage is a game-changer. We have every reason to be optimistic,” he said.

AGCOMS, Nigeria’s official John Deere dealer, led a ten-man delegation to the 2025 edition of the four-day exhibition, which drew a record-breaking 87,191 visitors and over 750 exhibitors from across the world. The firm used the platform to spotlight Nigeria’s potential to investors, engage with global equipment manufacturers, and deepen critical partnerships that align with the country’s mechanisation ambitions.

“The trip was more than attendance, it was a strategic step. It gave us a chance to learn from cutting-edge innovations, deepen our relationships, and build the most forward-thinking team in Africa,” Okoli said. “Exposure to global technology and best practices is key to reimagining Nigerian agriculture.”

As a trade facilitation and mechanisation services firm, AGCOMS plays a central role in Nigeria’s evolving agricultural landscape, providing tractors, implements, and after-sales services to both smallholders and large-scale farmers. The company is also building Nigeria’s largest agricultural equipment assembly and service hub in Abuja, a bold move that aligns with the federal government’s vision for mechanisation and youth empowerment.

One of the major highlights at NAMPO was the historic unveiling of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp Tractor, the most powerful ever introduced on the continent. Engineered for elite performance in large-scale agriculture, it blends high horsepower with quad-track traction and precision technology.
