Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Real-B, born Bright Obiejemba, is championing a call for strategic use of social media, by seizing the opportunity presented by President Tinubu’s open-door policy. The Petroleum Engineering graduate from FUTO, Owerri, emphasizes the need for Nigerians to negotiate for a better future.
Real-B discourages the prevalent mindset of violence or protests, he urged them to recognize the current administration’s willingness to listen to their concerns. Emphasizing the pivotal role of social media, he advocates for the formation of a pressure group that actively engages with the government, stating, “We all know that there is no other way again than to use this social media to form a pressure group that would demand and negotiate with the government.”
Highlighting key areas for reform, Real-B addresses the stagnant educational system, proposing a program to boycott time-wasting practices in secondary education. Real-B passionately declares, “The younger generation does not want to go to school anymore because they think that education does not serve their purpose of making a living and since their elderly ones who had graduated with good results are yet to get a job.”
Moving beyond party affiliations, Real-B stresses the urgency of facing reality and initiating change. He proposes starting with educational reforms, advocating for a curriculum that aligns with the needs of the youth. Real-B calls for active participation in discussions on minimum wage, encouraging Nigerians to be involved in decision-making processes. “This is not about the party; APC, PDP, or LP. This is we trying to face reality. We can start with educational reform. Our education system wastes time, JSS2 to JSS3, SS2 to SS3 have the same curriculum, and we know also that 5 years courses can be adjusted to 2 years. We can start a program that would boycott such time-wasting,” he states.
By leveraging social media as a tool for collective action, Real-B aims to empower the youth to shape a better Nigeria.
