Directed by Fishing Reel Pictures, the “iSurrender” video is punctuated with alluring dance steps, smooth choreography by the popular Amour Royale, and scenes with the singer clad in a stunning sultry outfit. In the music video, which is available on YouTube, we see Princess Wonda wooing a nicely built man while asking him to love her tenderly. “I’m always in competition with myself so I wanted the video to be more challenging than the last. The song itself talks about surrendering to love and the power in that made me want my visuals to be abstract” the Nigerian Afrobeat singer says.
Released on 11th February, 2022, Princess Wonda reveals that lyrics like ‘I Surrender, nah I be your woman, love me tender, baby no go maya’ inspired the concept for the video. “I wanted to use visual metaphors by contrasting light angelic ambience to a dark sexy and sultry mood. It was to illustrate the point that love doesn’t have an ideal picture, choosing the “good” or “bad” guy isn’t the point. We can choose who we love and to be in it fully we must surrender ourselves” she illustrates .
Princess Wonda uses dynamic sounds, affirming herself as the princess of AfroFusion. Princess Wonda grew up listening to a mixture of pop legends such as Destiny’s Child, Whitney Houston and West African icons Lagbaja, Fela Kuti, Sunny Ade and more which influenced her music greatly. “If you are looking for music to immerse yourself in, music that makes you feel encouraged, empowered and of course, entertained, I’m the woman for the job. I make music so that people can visualize themselves in a place where they can learn more about themselves and fantasize about who and what they want to be’, she elaborates.
Known for her captivating vocal tone and her touch of African uniqueness, Princess Wonda has disclosed that she will collaborate with leading Nigerian artistes to further titillate her fans. The world is surely listening and paying attention as Princess Wonda is breaking records and winning the hearts of millions of Afrobeat lovers across the globe.
