African Catholic bishops under the umbrella of Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) have sent a message of goodwill and solidarity to the Nigerian people as the country goes to the polls for the presidential and parliamentary elections on Saturday, February 25.
In his message delivered through the President, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) President of SECAM, and Archbishop of Kinshasa, Congo Democratic Republic, Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo, remarked that Nigeria holds an important place in Africa and for that reason needs prayers so that the elections which will produce credible leaders will be free and fair.
“I send you cordial greetings from the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) in Accra, Ghana.
“It is on behalf of SECAM that I send you this message of solidarity and goodwill as your country holds national and general elections in the months of February and March 2023.
“Nigeria occupies a position of prominent leadership and promise in the African continent and has the prospects of even greater things in the future.
“For these reasons, SECAM prays and hopes that the elections will be free and fair and produce leaders who will lead Nigeria with justice and integrity.
“In recognition of the prophetic role which your conference has played thus far in the history of Nigeria, we assure you of our solidarity and prayers. May Mary, the Queen of Africa, intercede for your dear country at this great moment in history.”
