The governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has promoted Dr Adebimpe Omotade Ijarotimi to professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, the university management recently announced.
Professor Ijarotimi, the first female professor in OAU’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Perinatology, has authored over 50 academic papers published in local and international peer-reviewed journals.
She graduated among the top five in her medical class at OAU and holds a Master’s in Public Health from the same institution.
Her postgraduate training at OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria earned her the Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria prize for the best candidate in the Part One fellowship exams.
She serves as a peer reviewer for several journals, an examiner, and a faculty board member at the National Postgraduate Medical College.
A passionate reproductive health advocate, Ijarotimi holds World Health Organisation certifications in adolescent sexual and reproductive health and family planning. As a master trainer for Rotary International’s Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health, she trains undergraduates and postgraduate residents at OAUTHC.
