Some actors and movie producers have appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that there are no more cases of election postponement in the country.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in separate interviews, in Lagos, yesterday, that the former action by INEC made most film producers to reschedule their shootings thus incurring huge financial loses.
The artists said the postponement announcement caught most of their members unaware and affected their shooting schedules.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, early in the morning of the election day, announced that it had postponed the presidential and national assembly elections to Feb. 23 and the governorship and state assemblies’ elections to March 9.
Meanwhile, some transport operators in Lagos State have said they were not part of the arrangement with the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to reduce transport fares for Saturday’s elections.
The operators, including including Primero Transport Services Limited, operator of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), disclosed this to NAN, yesterday.
They said instead, “what we agreed on is to make our services available during the elections; in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the electoral body.”
NURTW had earlier announced a 50 per cent reduction in transport fares on all routes for passengers travelling for the elections. On his part, Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr Oluwadamilola Emanuel, said there would be no slash in the fares of boats and ferry services.
