From Okwe Obi, Abuja

Residents of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, were, on June 19, 2022, thrown into confusion as three polythene bags containing mutilated body parts of a girl simply identified as Anita were found under a flyover.

The insidious act was allegedly committed by one Kelechi Amadi, in connivance with his father, Bishop Amadi Amadi, who is the shepherd of Freedom Chapel International Church, Gbazango, Kubwa, at about 11pm.

It was alleged that Kelechi, who is also a pastor in his father’s church, requested a tricycle rider to come to his house and take him for a short trip.

Unknown to the tricycle rider, Kelechi, a father of two children, was alleged to have packed the remains of Anita, who was said to be his girlfriend, in the three bags after chopping off her head and removing other organs.

Daily Sun learnt that when the tricycle rider got to Kelechi’s house, he brought out three bags that he claimed contained a dead goat, dog and some trash he wanted to dispose of along the road.

Upon arriving at a place called PW Bridge, Kelechi told the unsuspecting tricycle rider to stop for him to dump the refuse in the river. So, he threw the bags but they fell near heaps of refuse instead of inside the river.

The tricycle rider, who is yet to be identified, was said to have noticed bloodstains on the back seat of his machine but still did not suspect anything fishy.

“When the driver got home, he cleaned the bloodstains in his tricycle because he did not suspect it was human blood and he continued with his work the following day.

“But when he was passing through the same route the next morning, he saw a large crowd on the bridge and he stopped to catch a glimpse of the situation.

“He made an enquiry to know what happened and they told him that somebody dropped some bags containing the body parts of a lady that had been cut into pieces,” a source said.

Remembering what played out the previous day, it dawned on the tricycle rider that he was actually the person who dropped a man at the same spot with the same bags.

Worried by the incident, the tricycle rider reportedly rushed to the chairman of the tricycle riders’ union and notified him of the development.  The leadership of the tricycle association in the area immediately reported the incident at Kubwa divisional police headquarters.

The tricycle rider eventually led a team of detectives to Kelechi’s house.

Kelechi and his father were arrested and detained at the Kubwa divisional police headquarters before being transferred to the FCT Police Command in Garki for further investigation.

It was gathered the two suspects were shifting blame as to who killed the lady. While Kelechi accused his father, his father fingered him.

Following the development, Kelechi’s wife is said to have filed for a divorce.

Reacting to the incident, the FCT Police Command disclosed that the suspects had been arrested. Deputy police public relations officer of the command, ASP Oduniyi Omotayo, in a statement, said the Tactical and Intelligence Team had commenced investigation to unravel other facts surrounding the incident, and the outcome would be communicated to the public later.

When Daily Sun visited the church on Friday, July 8, at about 3.35pm, the yellow caution ribbon used to seal the gate by the police had been removed and the gate was ajar. A middle-aged man holding a file was seen coming out of the premises.

The church is a stone’s throw from the popular NYSC Junction, Kubwa. The signpost is conspicuous with the inscription: “A Loving and Caring Family.” The church is one-storey building with unpainted walls.

Some of the neighbours, who spoke to our correspondent, said they could not believe that such a thing could happen within their vicinity. They described the wife of the bishop as “jovial and friendly.”

A petty trader, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that Kelechi even had his wedding in the church.

“Nobody would have thought that such a thing could happen to the family. Some of us looked up to them as our spiritual mentors.

“Because of the incident, I am scared of going out. If I must go out, I must be back before 7pm. Nobody can be trusted anymore,” she said.

A brief stop at the popular and busy PW Bridge revealed that it shared a fence with a hotel. Beside it was a car wash point and other shops.

The car wash operators were reluctant to share their side of the story. One of them who eventually spoke said: “People started gathering here when the body began to smell. Ever since the police evacuated the body, people have been coming here. That is all I know.”
