The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has suspended its three-day warning strike, as confirmed by President Dr George Ebong.
The decision followed an emergency virtual recess meeting, prompted by the FCTA’s reinstatement of 127 dismissed health workers and partial payment of outstanding salaries.
Ebong stated, “We called off the warning strike after some of our demands were met. Most of our members have received their unpaid salaries and have been reinstated.”
Ebong expressed hope that remaining payments would be cleared by Thursday, May 8, to avoid further disruptions. He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Health Secretary Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, and Wike’s Chief of Staff Chidi Amadi for their swift intervention, saying, “We thank [them] for their swift intervention.”
The strike, which began on Tuesday, May 6, halted services in FCTA hospitals, with the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and two other unions joining in solidarity on Wednesday.
