From Okey Sampson, Umuahia
Abia State Government said it has concluded plans to flag off the construction of the Abia Medical City, a project believed to be designed to reverse medical tourism to the state.
This is as the state government announced it was embarking on massive recruitment of teachers for the basic and post-basic schools in Abia.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu who disclosed these while briefing the press in Umuahia, said the project when fully realized would make Abia a destination point for all medical cases within Nigeria and Sub- Saharan Africa.
“Abia Medical City is a signature project of the state government. It is a project that is designed to enhance medical tourism. A project that would direct tourism to the state in terms of medical services.
“A situation whereby rather than go outside the country to go and seek medical attention, Abia citizens , Nigerians and indeed Africa would want to come to Abia state on medical tourism once that project is completed,” Kanu said.
Meanwhile, Abia Government has announced it was embarking on massive recruitment of teachers for its basic and post basic schools in Abia state.
Announcing this in Umuahia, Kanu said arrangements have been concluded to employ 2,500 teachers across the state to fill vacancies already existing in the school system.
“The State Government has also concluded plans for massive employment of teachers in the state for both primary and secondary schools. This of course is another pointer to how important this sector is to the governor.”
The Commissioner informed that government has introduced mathematics clinics for students in examination classes of JSS 3 and SS3 which will hold Tuesdays and Thursdays of every week between the hours of 7-7:45.00 am to fully realize the STEM policy of the present administration.
