From Abuja, Kenneth Udeh

Leaders and stakeholders from the Abia North Senatorial District have publicly distanced themselves from any political coalition purportedly being formed against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking under the auspices of the Abia North Peace Foundation during a press conference held in Umuahia, the leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for both President Tinubu and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

This is just as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission commenced the construction of an additional 2-kilometre stretch of the Umuzomgbo–Okpo Ihechiowa Road.

The Foundation’s President Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu, alongside Prince Kalu Umeh, stated categorically that any such coalition “is dead on arrival,” emphasizing that Abia North stands firmly behind the current administration.

“We are not part of any plot against President Tinubu,” Chief Ukaegbu declared. “Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has consistently mobilised support for Mr. President across Abia State and the South-East. His leadership is a blessing to our people.”

The Foundation praised Senator Kalu’s wide-ranging achievements, particularly in the area of infrastructure.

They cited several completed road projects including the Idima Abam Road in Arochukwu LGA, the Ndi Orieke Road in Ohafia LGA, the Alayi-Okafia Road, the Itumbauzo Road, and the Okai Item Road—all of which were previously in deplorable condition.

Prince Umeh highlighted the broader impact of these projects: “Today, thanks to Senator Kalu’s intervention, roads that were once impassable have been rebuilt to modern standards, connecting communities and boosting local economies.”

Beyond roads, the leaders also commended Kalu’s contributions to education and youth empowerment, pointing to newly built classroom blocks in rural areas, scholarships for underprivileged students, and empowerment programs for women and youths across Abia North.

They further praised Senator Kalu for his role in uniting the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a bridge-builder and statesman whose political maturity has helped stabilize the party.

“Senator Kalu remains the best governor Abia has ever produced,” Chief Ukaegbu affirmed. “His time in office laid the foundation for the state’s development, and his continued service at the Senate is a testament to his enduring commitment to the people.”

As Senator Kalu expands his developmental footprint in rural Abia North with the new Umuzomgbo–Okpo road, both grassroots residents and elite stakeholders appear united in their support—viewing him as a central pillar of stability, progress, and effective governance in the region.

In a related development residents of Umuzomgbo Ihechiowa in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State are set to benefit from another major infrastructural intervention as Senator Kalu kick started the construction of an additional 2-kilometre stretch of the Umuzomgbo–Okpo Ihechiowa Road.

This new project follows the successful completion of a 2.4-kilometre road in the same community, making it a combined 4.4-kilometre boost to local transportation infrastructure.

When our correspondent visited the area, construction work was already in progress, drawing praise from residents who described Senator Kalu as a transformative figure. “Senator Kalu is a miracle worker,” said Mr. Agwu Okoro, a community member. “What we thought was impossible, he has made possible. This road will change our lives.”

Mrs. Mary Kalu, a local farmer, re-echoed this sentiment: “We are grateful to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for remembering Umuzomgbo Ihechiowa. His intervention has brought hope and development to our people.”

Prince Okorie Awa, a youth leader, emphasized the broader impact of the project; “This road is moving toward Okpo-Ihechiowa, and it will give us access to neighbouring communities. This means economic growth, better access to markets, and a general uplift for our youth. We sincerely thank Senator Kalu.”

“The ongoing construction of the 2KM extension is expected to further integrate the community into the broader Arochukwu LGA road network, improving mobility, trade, and quality of life for residents.
