The Obalohun of Okoloke in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, Oba Dada Ogunyanda, has regained his freedom after spending 27 days in the custody of his abductors.
Chairman, Yagba West Local Government Area, Mr Tosin Olokun confirmed the monarch’s release.
Oba Ogunyanda was abducted in his palace by heavily armed gunmen on May 15.
The assailants reportedly overpowered the palace guards before whisking the traditional ruler away to an unknown destination.
The council chairman disclosed that Oba Ogunyanda was released at midday Tuesday, June 11, following pressure from combined security forces and local vigilance groups.
He added that the monarch has rejoined his family and is receiving medical attention.
Olokun said, “We are grateful to God Almighty and all security stakeholders who worked tirelessly to secure Kabiyesi’s safe return. This is a day of joy for Yagba West.
“Throughout the 28 days of his captivity, we maintained close engagement with the affected community, and we never relented in our search.
“The message was clear, criminality will not thrive in Yagba West.”
