An air of uncertainty currently pervades the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State as the Supreme Court will today (Friday) decide who flies the party’s governorship flag for the 2023 election.
Former Commissioner of Finance, David Edevbie, who came second in the May 25, 2022 primary had filed an appeal, seeking to upturn the judgement of the Court of Appeal in favour of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori.
The former commissioner had won at the Federal High Court, Abuja where he challenged the authenticity of academic credentials of Oborevwori.
Oborevwori who won the primary election, approached the Court of Appeal where the judgement of the lower court was upturned in his favour.
Dissatisfied, Edevbie filed an appeal at the apex court. At the last sitting of the Supreme Court, judgement was reserved on the matter for October 21.
Daily Sun learnt that the legal battle has stalled campaign activities within the state chapter of the party.
As at the time of filing this report, party faithful which are sharply divided into either Edevbie camp or Oborevwori camp, are anxious about what the outcome of matter at the apex court.
Contacted on what his message is for the teeming supporters of the party, chairman of PDP in the state, Kingsley Esiso said he can only speak after the judgement, noting that the decision of the Supreme Court would determine the content of his message.
But the Director of Communications of David Edevbie Campaign, Fred Edoreh, said there was no cause for alarm, pointing out that the legal tussle was a family affair.
“We are one people, one Delta, one PDP.
All Deltans are brothers and friends. We must never forget that in all that we do,” he stated in a text message to our correspondent.
