The Faculty of Management Sciences, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Agbani has elected its first female substantive dean, Professor Chioma Dorothy Oleka.
Oleka, who was unanimously elected by all academic staff in the Faculty, is a Professor of Banking and Finance with about 20 years teaching and research experience.
The Electoral Officers, Prof. J. U. Mgbada (Vice Chancellor’s Representative) and Moses Ogbodo who represented the Registrar, declared Oleka winner of the election and returned her elected.
In her acceptance speech, Prof. Oleka assured the Faculty that she was going to run an all-inclusive administration where every staffer’s opinion would be respected.
She thanked God and all staff for the rare opportunity to be elected the first female Dean in the over thirty five years old Faculty. She also extolled Professors Sunny Udeze and Clementina Okafor, for nominating her.
It is noteworthy that two other contestants, Prof. Titus O. Enedu and Prof. Mike Anyanwaokoro stepped down for Oleka few hours to the election. The duo said they stepped down to unite the Faculty.
Reacting to the development, Deputy Vice Chancellor who is the immediate past Dean of the faculty, Prof. Chike Nwoha, expressed joy in the way the election was managed and advised the new Dean to “run an all-inclusive government.”
Also, a Professor of Accounting and Director ESUT Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Uche Ugwuanyi expressed gratitude over the successful conduct of the electoral process and urged all members of the Faculty to stand behind the new Dean in the interest of the Faculty and the University as a whole, stressing that “the Faculty is known for outstanding achievements and peace.”
