From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
There was pandemonium yesterday in Owerri, the Imo state capital, as street traders at the popular Douglas Road, confronted officials of the State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) and security agents, when the task force officials were enforcing a relocation order issued by the Governor Hope Uzodimma, few months ago.
The adamant traders, who were asked to relocate to other sites provided for them, hauled stones at the ENTRACO officials and security agents who, in turn, fired rubber bullets sporadically, to scare them away.
But, rather than retreating, the traders in their numbers attacked the officials and, in the ensuing fracas, passersby who were ignorant of what was happening ran helter-skelter for safety.
However, no casualty was recorded in the incident except for a few people who fell while running for safety when they heard the sound of gunshots.
