THE Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), yesterday, selected 10 boxers that will represent the country at the forthcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers in Cameroon. 12 of the 22 boxers that were earlier invited to camp were decamped.
The 10 selected boxers (seven male) and (three female) are some of those that won medals for the country at the Congo Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games.
The boxers are Efe Ajagba (Gold medalist), Efetobor Apochi (Silver medalist), Korede Adeniji, Kazeem Soyoye, Muyideen Oyakojo and two new surprise entrants that defeated champions of their weight categories, Sadiq Umar and Christian Abua.
Umar defeated both Ayodele Mike and Danuloko Ekele while Abua Christian made nonsense of 2015 All Africa Games gold medalist, Femi Oyeleye whom he turned into a punching bag during their consistent internal trials in the Lagos camp. In the women’s category are 2015 All Africa Games gold medalist, Soldier lady, Edith Ogoke-Agu and her two Nigerian Army counterparts, Kehinde
Obareh (Gold medalist) and Caroline Linus (Silver medalist). The Secretary General of Nigeria Boxing Federation, Olusola Luke who confirmed the decamping said those in camp are battle ready for the qualifiers in Cameroon.
