Lagos is set to host the African Food and Drinks Festival: Garri Day on Saturday, August 24, 2024. 

 

The event, organized by Chief Obani Oluwabiyi Anthony Boyede Greenlyte, founder of Theatre Centrik, will celebrate African culture with a special focus on Garri, a staple food in African cuisine.

 

Partnering with the Lagos State Tourism Board, the University of Kulture, Alimosho Arts Community Initiatives (AACI), and other esteemed organizations, the festival aims to highlight Garri’s cultural importance.

 

Chief Boyede emphasized the festival’s role in promoting cultural heritage and unity among African communities.

 

“The event will be held at the University of Kulture, located at 2 Araromi Street, Lasu Ojo Road, Lagos,” he stated.

“Attendees can expect a day filled with cultural activities, including a mini Garri competition, dance and drama performances, and various exhibitions. The festival will also showcase highlights from the recent summer fun fest and feature the premiere of ‘Nku,’ a cinematic film created entirely with an iPhone.”

 

The festival will present a variety of Garri from across Africa, including Ijebu Garri with its fine texture and sweet taste, Ghanaian Garri with its spiced blend, Cameroonian Garri known for its crunchy texture and rich aroma, and traditional Nigerian Garri.

 

In addition to the food, the event will feature a lineup of notable guests, including veteran actors, traditional rulers, and key figures from the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Tourism.

 

“This festival is a celebration of our cultural heritage and aims to unite African communities,” Chief Boyede concluded.
