National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, has arrested a total of 81 persons in connection with dugs related offences in the first quarter of 2019.
Coordinator of NDLEA in Oyo State, Mr. Ralph Igwenagu, a lawyer, said the agency has secured the conviction of 20 among the arrested 81 suspects, adding that they have been sentenced to various jail terms, ranging from six months to five years.
The command also confisticated a total of 600.561kilogrammes of cannabis sativa and other substances of abuse.
Igwenagu, in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the command’s public relations officer, Mrs. Mutiat Okuwobi, said the items seized from the suspects included Diazepam, Exol Five, and Tramadol that has been banned from circulation.
Accordin to him, the command also uncovered a secret notorious “Skushi” (a derivative potpourri of illicit and controlled drugs) factory in Ibadan metropolis which led to the seizure of 290 litres of skushi and its paraphernalia.
“During the period under review, brief intervention was also given to 42 persons who used drug via counselling and rehabilitation. They were integrated back to the society while 10 other clients are still undergoing rehabilitation.
“NDLEA Oyo state command will not relent in frustrating the activities of drug peddlers in the state and the nation at large.”
