THE much touted consequential, but historical debate between Secretary Hilary Clinton and Mr. Donald Trump at Hofstra University on September 26, 2016 has come and gone with inconsequential results. Though there were varied opinions on the outcome of the debate, yet it did not structurally change the dynamics of the election, especially in an election cycle with entrenched bifurcated electorate.
Because of a clear divided electorate, the debate may not have moved a needle in either direction; the candidates may have done enough to shore up their base, but inadequately performed to attract the undecided voters who are poised to tip the balance on the election day.
However, based on the optics and substance, many people who watched the debate may consider Clinton as the winner of the first debate with two remaining before the election in November. Some Nigerian Americans who are likely to vote reacted with varied opinions.
Chief Jerry Ken Ike opined, “Hillary Clinton looks more presidential in the debate than Trump. She is more specific in answering her questions. I was thinking that by now Mr. Trump should have started toning down some of his rhetoric; for Trump to continue to push that American allies should pay for their own fair share means he has no single understanding of how international politics works. America can achieve little or nothing in their war against terror without the allies. If by any chance Trump wins this election, America will lose their position in the world. Hillary trashed Trump when she made a startling revelation that Trump hasn’t paid any federal tax. Trump clowned himself by claiming the act as smartness. That was the dumbest thing I have heard from a presidential candidate in my adult life. That evading tax is being smart, give me a break.”
Commenting on the debate, Dr. Chika Onyeani expressed, “The continued denigration of the first black President of the United states by Donald Trump, and his continued refusal to acknowledge that Obama was born in America, should be seen as a major insult to every black person, Republican or Democrat.  We should applaud Hillary Clinton for calling out Trump for his bigotry and racism all his life.  Of course, all this will be meaningless unless black people voted in greater numbers than we did in 2008 and 2012.”
Prof. Charles Mambula said, “The CNN/ORC poll scored the debate at 62/27 for Clinton. Although Pro Democrats had it at 51%-42%. Clinton scored big on foreign policy 62-35.” Prof. Mambula continued, “Most people that were chosen at a random responded that Clinton was better prepared for the interview, was measured, appeared to be knowledgeable, predictable and promising.”
According to Mambula, “On the other hand Donald Trump was more business-like in approach and appeared to be defensive. Trump chose to evade questions and continues to use a blaming tactical game to dent his opponent. Most people gave it to Clinton although many think it was close. Those who support Trump like free spirited American gonzo approach, which would be a different style of leadership from usual conservative method. Clinton is accepted by most people as being more experienced and trained in diplomatic relationship between countries, which seemingly Trump is lacking.
Should Clinton win the Presidential election in November with three more debates to go it would be mainly because of the trust people have for her diplomatic prowess. Trump seems to depend mostly on his ability to revamp the American economy and protect it from foreign influx of illegal immigrants, that carries support for Trump from disgruntled voters. Each opponent has the strong points to put their hat’s on, but the gap between the two is too close make a final prediction on who would win the election.
However, if the final decision is to be made from this debate that was held at Hofstra University in NY, then Clinton, would be the most likely candidate to succeed Barack Obama as the next US President and Commander-in-chief.”
Prof. K. Kalu Diogu elaborately stated, “The 2016 Presidential debate between Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton and the Republican nominee Donald Trump finally took place at the Hofstra University in Hempstead New York yesterday. It was a disaster for Donald Trump
“Initially and in the first 15 minutes of the debate, Donald J, Trump, the Republican nominee was strong on trade issues. However, the first thing that confused him was when the Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton used the phrase “Trumped Down Trickle Down”, to describe Mr. Trump’s economic plan. Following that phrase, Mr. Trump literally lost his balance.  His lack of understanding of the facts and figures about anything he said afterwards became manifest. It became obvious that Mr. Trump did not prepare for the debate and even if he did, he could not remember what he rehearsed or crammed.
“From taxes, stifling his workers, environmental and the birther issues, Trump was a no show. It was not even close. Hillary won big time. Trump did not even know the outcome and cognitional implication of stop and first law in New York. Just as he could not differentiate between the powers of Federal, states and city authorities. As the debate continued, Clinton’s confidence built up while it appeared Trump ran out of gas and presented himself as someone who was not ready for primetime. He became so incoherent as he showed himself as unprepared.
“There is no way an intellectual can say with a straight face that someone as incoherent as Donald Trump was will become the President of the United States. He was so off the rail on national security issues. Hillary Clinton exceeded the standard that was set for her. The split screen killed Trump. It showed a 3-year-old kid on a 70-year-old man’s body.
His plausibility as the President of the United States was extinguished tonight. Trump lost facial control. At times the reality show star looked like he did not even realize he was on TV and that the whole world was watching.
Hillary was prepared, solid, knowledgeable and did a good job. She reassured the world and US ally’s that the United State will honor its pledge to keep this world safe. Not since Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson out in Japan have I seen such a knock out.
Hillary finished Trump. I doubt if he will show up in the remaining two debates planned by the Presidential debate commission since no contracts were signed that obligates him to show up.  Donald Trump’s performance and lack of preparation proved that he is temperamentally unfit to become the President of the United States.”
