Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Leo Nwuba, has commiserated with the Hausa Community in Anambra State, over last week’s tanker explosion which killed over six people.

Nwuba visited the scene of the incident, in the early hours of Sunday and sympathised with the community for the damages.

The incident happened at a busy roundabout connecting Onitsha,Agulu and Awka close to the Governor’s Lodge at Amawbia, when the driver of the fuel-laden tanker lost control when one of the wheels fell off. He promised assist them to manage the loss.

Nwuba praised Governor Willie Obiano’s effort for establishing efficient fire service in the state, which made it possible to stop the inferno from more damages. He called on the Federal Government to fix Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, especially the Umunnya-Amawbia part of the highway; to ease the heavy trucks plying the old roads.

He praised the Obiano for the value he places on safety of life and properties and expressed sympathy for their loss. He assured that government would do everything possible to avoid future occurence.

There were casualties when 10 people were initially reported dead and others sustained burns. It was gathered that  a house which haboured Hausa residents was burnt while about six people were burnt to death.
