The Benue State Police Commissioner, Ene Okon, has directed immediate dismantling of all road blocks and illegal check points on highways across the state.
The Police Commissioner gave the directive when he played host to the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Terzungwe Atser.
CP Okon regretted that despite orders by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on zero road blocks on the nation’s highways, some persons and groups are still notorious and are insistence of doing it.
The police boss pledged the Command’s support to rid the state of all forms of roadblocks so at to pave way for the smooth tax administration in the state.
Earlier, in his address, the BIRS boss had lamented that those unauthorised activities by individuals and groups in the state have adversely affected the current tax administration.
He explained further that the illegal operations of such individuals run against BIRS’ s functions stating that he uncovered over 166 illegal check points and road blocks on assumption of office.

Atser, however, noted that with the assistance of the police Ex-Squad team, those illegal checkpoints and roadblocks would be dismantled within a short period.
The BIRS chairman lamented that some of those dismantled roadblocks were already returning as they had since been put back by the same group of persons, a development, he said, was posing grave consequence of the operations of BIRS.
Responding, CP Okon, stated that, “Their activities contravene the order by the Inspector General of Police that there shall be no road blocks of any kind on the nation’s highways.”
He stated that Inspector General of Police had directed zero roadblocks on the roads and assured them that the compliance is absolute.
