Secretary General of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tunde Popoola has expressed joy over the level of support coming the way of newly formed Nigeria Pentathlon Association.
The association led by former NOC first vice president, Jonathan Nnaji got a big boost yesterday when an Ireland based Nigerian sport enthusiast, Zephrynus Ikeh donated state of the art training and office equipment to it.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at the NOC boardroom, Popoola said he is amazed by the kind of support pentathlon is enjoying.
“Just some months back, this same association got some equipment donated to it. I m surprised that we are here to take delivery of another set of equipment. I m impressed with the way Jonathan Nnaji is going about building up this youngest baby of NOC. This association is new but the way it is going, it may overtake over the scene in no distance time. I wont be surprised if we start winning medals in the sport at international sporting meets,” Popoola said.
Popoola was full of praise for Ikeh who donated the equipment declaring that the step taken by the sport enthusiast was what Nigeria needs to excel in sports.
“Many people out there expect Nigerian athletes to go out there and perform magic without supporting them. What Ikeh has done is the kind of motivation we need to do well. I hope other Nigerians will emulate him.”
Nnaji on his part commended the donor for coming to the aid of pentathlon, even as he assured that the association would put the equipment to good use.
Ikeh, who is the President of Zeepro International Limited, said his desire to see Nigeria dazzle in sports informed his decision to donate the equipment to the association.
He pledged to continue supporting Nigerian sports and prayed for the success of the country at the Rio 2016 Olympics game this summer.
