The Presidency has addressed reports circulating that George Akume has stepped down as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), calling them untrue.

The update was given in a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, amid claims that Akume stepped down to become the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Onanuga, “there has been no change in the status” of Akume.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue,” Onanuga stated.

Onanuga’s statement comes following Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation as the APC National Chairman, with the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, poised to take over.

While APC spokesman Felix Morka attributed Ganduje’s decision to the need to attend to personal and urgent matters, there are speculations that he resigned over increasing from within the party.
