Alhaji Aminu Dantata, the late Kano billionaire and elder statesman, will be laid to rest in Madina, Saudi Arabia, in accordance to his final desires.

Although many expected his funeral to take place in Kano, his family revealed that he made a will stating his desire to be buried next to his late wife, Rabi Dantata, who died in 2023.

According to family sources, his remains have been transferred to Saudi Arabia, where preparations for his burial in the holy city of Madina are ongoing.

Salatul Ga’ib, an Islamic funeral prayer in absentia, has been held in Kano state for the late Aminu Dantata, business magnate and philanthropist.

The funeral prayer was held on Saturday at the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in Kano metropolis and was led by Ibrahim Khalil, chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas.

Thousands of mourners, including prominent figures such as Barau Jibrin, the deputy senate president, gathered to honour the elder statesman’s memory.

Alhaji Dantata, who died at 94 in the wee hours of Saturday after a brief illness, was widely respected for his philanthropy and business acumen.

His passing has drawn tributes from across Nigeria and beyond, with many recalling his contributions to commerce, education, and community development.
