The Managing Director /Editor-in-Chief, The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr Onuoha Ukeh, was on Friday elected General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
Ukeh clinched the position during the guild’s ongoing Biennial National Convention, taking place at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, the Enugu State capital. He polled a total of 218 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Wole Sogunle, who secured 45 votes. The third contestant, Dr Qasim Akinreti garnered 30 votes.
Also at the convention, the incumbent President of the Guild, Eze Anaba, was re-elected, while immediate past General Secretary, Iyobosa Uwugiaren emerged Treasurer.
The convention, which drew about 400 editors from across the country, is being attended by several prominent media professionals and public figures.
They include former governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba; former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; founder of Channels Television, Dr. John Momoh; former Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina; Commissioner for Information, Imo State, Mr Declan Emelumba as well as commissioners, presidential aides, veteran journalists, NGE fellows and many others.
