Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, Umuahia, comprising Abia and Imo states, Mr Kanyo Uzuegbu, has charged officers to tackle criminal in the zone and apply professionalism in discharging their duties. He spoke at the Inspector of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja: “The two commissioners of police in the zone are doing excellent job. I have charged officers to flush out hoodlums terrorising the states.
“We have intensified efforts to curb crime and criminality in the states. I warn officers against the use of torture in conducting interrogation of suspects. There is peace in the East because criminals have started relocating from the states.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring effective crime prevention management and control in the states. I appreciate officers for their support and co-operation. I also commend them in ensuring positive, timely and effective national security reportage.
“Stakeholders agreed to collaborate with the police and share intelligence on armed robbers and kidnappers. They pledged to support police operations in the affected areas, including providing information and assisting in the arrest of perpetrators.
“Officers are encouraged to imbibe community policing and shun corruption. They should abide by the rules and regulations of the Police Act and human rights in dealing with the public. The command will intensify patrols and surveillance. Strategic deployments have been made to cover vulnerable spaces to ensure maximum security.
“The zone’s security architecture has been enhanced to accommodate veritable tools for clampdown on criminal elements through the adoption of robust inter-agency collaborations, capacity building for police officers through training and retraining, amplified community policing, engagement of advanced intelligence and technology-driven policing, increasing the law of supervision of officers and men.
