A 10 -year-old son of a Police Inspector has shot dead his father and injured his brother with a loaded AK-47 rifle left unattended to by his father.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga announced the sad death of Inspector Okolie Amechi.
Ikenga in a statement yesterday,said the police have expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident which occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2015.
The statement read in part: “The incident, which occurred on the evening of June 15, 2025, was allegedly due to an accidental discharge by his 10-year-old son. The son unaware of the state of the AK 47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector in the back and his second child in his hand.
“Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment. “Meanwhile, the AK47 rifle has been recovered, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue”.
The Command while wishing the second victim a quick recovery, condoled with the family and friends of the late Inspector.
