At least eight people were killed and approximately 80 houses were set ablaze when gunmen attacked Chicim community in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State on Tuesday, June 10. Three others injured in the attack are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed Chicim, located just one kilometre from Mangu town, around 10:00 PM, shooting sporadically. Kespan Iliya, a resident, told journalists that the community was woken from sleep by the sound of gunshots fired by the attackers, who operated in a commando-style manner.

The assailants reportedly extended their attack to the neighbouring Gyenbwas community in Langai District, also in Mangu LGA, where over 80 houses were razed. Sources indicate the gunmen retreated after the attacks without facing any resistance.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and no further details were available at the time of this report. Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, and the Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, were unsuccessful, as their phones were unreachable.
