The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others. This German-French Nobel laureate, Albert Schweitzer’s famous quote seems to be the golden rule inspiring Mrs Bukola Olabisi Bakare in her desire to help humanity. To make her impact felt, Bakare joined Rotary Club —an international service organisation that brings together business and professional leaders that provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and advance goodwill and peace around the world.

For many years, Bakare, who is the first female president of the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Lagos State, has embraced the culture of selflessness as advocated by the Rotary Club to make life better for everyone. She has served the club with panache, leads with grace, inspires with strength and stands in Rotary history. This selfless service has culminated in her elevation as the first female District Governor of Rotary International District 9111.

Last weekend at a well-attended ceremony in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Bakare was unveiled as the District 9111 Governor Nominee to replace the current District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi. The unveiling took place at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta during the pioneer convention of Rotary Club and the unveiling of District Governor Designate of District 9111.

The DG nominee, Bakare, expressed her excitement at her elevation and the opportunity to further serve humanity. She noted that a lot still needs to be done when it comes to selfless services and making the country attain its enviable heights.
