From John Bassey, Gusau
The former governor of Zamfara State and the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle Maradun, has flagged off the distribution of 3,000 rams donated by him to the APC members and supporters across the 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara.
The flag-off exercise took place at the bypass area in Gusau, the state capital, where he explained that 1,400 rams would go to each LGA, while the remaining 1,600 would go to senior citizens and stakeholders in the state.
Represented by Zamfara APC State Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani, the minister said the essence of donating the sacrificial rams is to reduce the tension created by the high cost of rams in the market and also provide a token for the people to use for sacrifice on the festive day.
He maintained that the significance of the gesture is to motivate the people of the state to use the festive period and pray for total restoration of peace in Zamfara State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking, the Zamfara APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Yusuf Idris Gusau, said: “We are here to flag off the distribution of 3,000 rams donated by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle Maradun, to the APC members and supporters in all the 14 LGAs of Zamfara State in order to support them in the forthcoming Sallah celebration.”
He urged all Muslim faithful, irrespective of any political affiliation, to engage submissively in prayers for God’s intervention, considering the security situation of the state.
He reiterated by encouraging everyone to rise up and join the fight against banditry by providing intelligence information that would lead to disarming and neutralising insurgencies that have gripped some rural communities within the state.
