For the third summer transfer window in succession, Victor Osimhen’s future hangs in the balance as speculations over his future continue to generate online buzz.
Arguably one of the biggest attacking forwards in European club football today, Osimhen has become a household name and a primary target for top clubs across different leagues.
However, there have been some speculations on why any of the top European clubs have not signed him yet despite showing interest in the Super Eagles striker.
Daily Sun brings to you 5 reasons European clubs may not sign Osimhen.
1. High transfer fee
Osimhen’s current contract with Napoli, which extends until 2026, means any club wanting to sign him would likely have to pay a significant transfer fee to meet Napoli’s demands.
According to Transfermarkt, Osimhen’s current transfer value is €70 million. Additionally, FootballTransfers estimates his value to be between €59.9 million and €73.2 million as of May 2025.
2. Wage demands
Osimhen’s exorbitant salary demands may pose a challenge for clubs with limited funds.
Reports suggest that he wants to maintain or slightly increase his current earnings from Napoli, where he earns approximately €12 million net per year, equivalent to about £192,000-£200,000 gross per week.
However, sources close to him have dismissed such claims.
3. Age, injury concerns
Concerns about Osimhen’s age and injury history may hinder clubs from making long-term investments.
Despite being 26 years old with a solid track record, there are concerns regarding his susceptibility to injury.
4. Competition from Saudi clubs
Saudi clubs, particularly those with significant financial backing, could offer Osimhen lucrative contracts, potentially making them a stronger competitor for his signature.
5. Potential competition from other European clubs
Major European clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United have all been linked with Osimhen, meaning there could be intense competition for his signature.
