The authorities of the University of Calabar and the Cross River State Police Command have launched a probe into the abduction of a 400 level medical student of the institution.

Mark Ofre Okwohe, a medical student in the institution, was abducted days ago, according to reports on some social media platforms.

Details of his abduction have been sketchy, but the institution formally confirmed online reports of the medical student’s abduction and said it did not occur on campus.

A statement from Effiong Eyo, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, said, “Preliminary investigations conducted by the University reveal that the student was last seen in his room (106) at Hall 2 Annex on May 31, 2025, as the alleged incident did not occur on campus.

“The Hall Chairman and the student’s roommate share this view, and we are working closely with other relevant security agencies to gather more information and ensure a swift resolution of this matter”, he said.

Also speaking, Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the abduction in an interview.

She said the command is aware of the incident and is working with its units, including the State Anti Cultists, to secure the release of the victim.

The university community and the general public are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as the investigation unfolds.
