The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to stop playing politics with Nigeria’s financial institutions.
Nwosu made this plea, yesterday in Abuja while presenting a certificate of return to the governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr John Nwosu.
He emphasised the importance of allowing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to be totally independent, adding that continued politicking with it would affect both the democratic and economic state of the nation.
“Nigeria’s poverty level is 75 percent. You can’t talk about inflation. Insecurity is everywhere but the worst is that the Federal Government is playing politics with the central bank and our monetary policies.
“All the local contractors in Nigeria have not been paid. Our local debts have amounted to more than N100 trillion and they are talking of clearing foreign debts.
“You cannot play politics with financial institutions, the country will go down more. They manipulate figures for the purpose of local politics.
“You can play politics everywhere but leave the central bank alone, let the figures show for itself. Manipulating our monetary policies for politics is completely destroying the dividend of our democracy.”
The ADC Chairman insisted that this was not the democracy President Tinubu stood for in 1993 before he was voted into power.
Speaking on the forthcoming by-election, he also stressed that the ruling government should make things right by allowing the votes of Nigerians to count.
He said his candidate is not only out to win elections but to teach Nigerians how to lead and develop the nation
On his part, the governorship candidate, Mr John Nwosu appreciated the party for believing in him and pledged commitment to the development of the state.
“We are committed to building a government anchored on transparency, accountability, inclusive and sustainable development.
“We are obligated to listen to the people’s voices, uphold their rights and to work tirelessly to deliver the dividend of democracy to every corner of the state,” he stated.
