Member representing Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency 2 in the House of Representatives, Okey Onuakalusi has assured his constituents of continued representation in the green chamber. Onuakalusi who is a Labour Party lawmaker spoke at the distribution of 60 grinding machines and 60 sewing machines he attracted to some of his constituents as part of his empowerment programme. He told the beneficiaries that he would never be tired of empowering people in the federal constituency to better their lives economically, describing the empowerment as part of his election promises.
Reeling out a plethora of the socio-economic and infrastructural projects he has attracted since he was elected, he pledged that he would at all times demonstrate to the people of Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency and Lagosians the difference in governance by being responsive to, and prioritising their needs, disclosing that bigger and broader empowerment was underway.
Speaking, Walter Ukaga, Constituency Administrator and Special Assistant to Onuakalusi, said his principal’s empowerment initiatives stemmed from his deep commitment to alleviating poverty and uplifting his constituents in Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency II. “His approach aligns with the Labour Party’s ideals of social democracy and grassroots development, as seen in his foundational work which focuses on youth/women empowerment, education, and health . His recent diplomatic engagements also reflect his belief that local development must be supported by global partnerships,” Ukaga said.
According to him, the distribution of the machines was part of broader efforts to foster self-reliance, particularly among women and low-income groups and expressed optimism that the empowerment programme would directly improve livelihoods by providing tools for income generation, reducing unemployment and fostering community resilience.
On his part, Bishop Remigus Agu, Labour Party Chairman for Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area commended the ’lawmaker’s achievements, describing him as a selfless, urbane and detribalised leader, who cares for all his constituents irrespective of party affiliation and tribe.
