The May 30 sit-at-home declared by pro-Biafra groups in commemoration of the declaration of the state of Biafra 58 years ago by late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu recorded huge success in Abia State.

This is even as leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have expressed gratitude to the people of Biafra for their full compliance to the voluntary sit at home exercise in commemoration of the 58th anniversary of Biafra declaration.

In Umuahia, there was total lock down of the capital city as residents stayed indoors in total obedience of the sit-at-home order.

Government offices, banks, schools markets and other public institutions were closed and commercial buses and tricycle operators were off the roads.

Major streets in the city were deserted as poor stayed indoors. However, it was during the evening period people started coming out from their houses.

It was the same story in Aba, the commercial hub of the state.

Reports from the city indicated of total compliance as all markets, government and public institutions were closed.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have expressed gratitude to the people of Biafra for their full compliance on the voluntary sit at home exercise in commemoration of the 58th anniversary of Biafra declaration by Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu.

A statement by its leader, Uchenna Madu said their people have shown and express their spirit of Biafranism and love for their fatherland.

“Your honor and respect for the fallen heroes of Biafra and malnourished children of Biafra because of kwashiorkor will never be in vain.

“MASSOB salute the traders, transporters, civil workers, private sectors, students and pupils for their unshakable love and obedience to honour our call for the sit at home exercise in honor of Biafra.

“MASSOB will continue in maintaining our principles of non violence in our agitation for Biafra actualization.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should know that the will power of Ndigbo in today’s huge compliance of MASSOB directive will not only determine our political destination, but determine our voting power in 2027”, the statement added.
