From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

Members of the Kawara community, on the outskirts of the Kebbi State Capital, are appealing to the Kebbi State Government for quick intervention to stop the diversion of the road construction in the area linking about nine villages.

A spokesperson of the community, Mallam Bello Muhammad Kawara, who stated this while speaking with newsmen, disclosed that a top official of the State Ministry of Lands has directed the contractor, who was given the job from the Federal Government, to divert the road construction to create an avenue for land allocations.

According to him, “For a very long time, our people have sought an access road to traverse nine villages in the area, which have high agricultural and economic potential.

“The road starts from Sani Abacha bypass, Birnin Kebbi and passes through Kawara, Kardi, Gwazon Fulani, Gwazon Zabarma, Unguwar Maifada, Bango Fulani to Randali”,

“We are lucky that the Federal Government through its Agricultural Agency awarded the contract of 1.2 km; the contractor has since mobilised to the site, and work is in progress.

“Unfortunately, a top official of the Kebbi Ministry of Lands has ordered the contractor to change the direction of the project, that will take it off-course, thereby creating an opportunity for land grab to satisfy personal aggrandisement.

“Consequently, we appeal to Governor Nasir Idris for his intervention to save the communities from unnecessary hardship.

“We are law abiding Citizens, reaffirming our support and loyalty to the Federal Government under President Tinubu and to our dear Governor Nasir Idris,” Kawara said.
