The Nigerian international collided with a post late in the game on Sunday, leading to the procedure.

Awoniyi underwent surgery on Monday evening. Although his condition is not life-threatening, it could have become serious if left untreated.

To help manage his recovery, Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma to restrict his movement and regulate his heart rate, as he remained in intensive care.
