Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has intensified efforts to strengthen safety measures among employers and workers of corporate organizations in Nnewi, Anambra State, through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalization.
This effort was demonstrated yesterday, at Tummy Tummy Instant Noodles manufacturing company in Nnewi industrial community as part of the activities marking the 2025 World Day for Safety and Health at work.
The Nnewi branch manager of the NSITF, Mrs Okeke Onyinye, said the agency had continued to receive positive responses from clients as a result of the ongoing sensitization effort.
In her presentation to the management and staff of the company in Nnewi on the theme, Revolutionizing Health Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work, the head of general administration and services of NSITF, Ngozi Obichukwuma emphasized the need for safety at work and deployment of modern technology.
“As we celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025, it is a period we remind employers and employees of the need to safeguard the work environment and the life of every worker.
“The NSITF has chosen to further demonstrate its commitment to the safety of all employees in Nigeria.
“Today, we are witnessing a significant transformation in the way we approach issues of health and safety at work.
“The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digitalization is revolutionizing the way we identify, assess, and mitigate risks. For instance, AI can analyze vast amounts of data to predict potential hazards, enabling proactive measures to prevent accidents.
“AI-powered sensors can detect anomalies in real-time, alerting us to potential dangers just as digital platforms can streamline safety reporting, incident tracking, and compliance management, enabling organizations to respond swiftly to incidents and make data-driven decisions, “she said.
Obichukwuma told the management and staff that AI and Digitalization could transform their company’s workplace through predictive analytics and risk assessment.
She said that the cutting-edge technology could use devices like smart helmets, vests, and wristbands that monitor workers’ health and environmental conditions and send alerts in real-time to supervisors and workers, if thresholds are crossed.
She told them that computer vision and surveillance systems could detect unsafe behaviors or dangerous conditions.
“Tummy Tummy shall provide for its workers immersive safety training simulation for hazardous scenarios without actual risk. This will enhance learning and compliance with safety protocols.
“As we continue to leverage AI and digitalization, we must prioritize data quality and integrity to ensure accurate and reliable data. We must prioritize cyber security to protect sensitive information, among other things, “she added.
