In an increasingly data-driven world, one leader is creating lasting social change across Nigeria, empowering vulnerable communities and influencing national policy decisions.
Oluwayemisi Owoade, a Business Intelligence Analyst at CHES Empowerment Foundation (CHESFOUND), has emerged as a transformative figure by harnessing data analytics to tackle some of Nigeria’s most pressing societal issues, mental health challenges, substance abuse, school dropouts, and homelessness. Her innovative strategies connect grassroots interventions directly with government resources, significantly reshaping the nation’s approach to community empowerment and rehabilitation.
Owoade’s tenure at CHESFOUND exemplifies a profound commitment to leveraging data for social good. By pioneering advanced predictive modeling and statistical analyses, she has developed a comprehensive intelligence system that tracks outcomes and risk profiles for over 5,656 vulnerable individuals across 15 Nigerian states, including Lagos, Rivers, Sokoto, Kano, and Ogun.
This data-driven approach has led directly to targeted interventions reaching over 3,000 children, 800 adults, and 700 youths, dramatically improving their prospects and life trajectories.
Remarkably, Owoade’s meticulous data strategies have achieved an impressive 85.8% improvement rate post-intervention, coupled with an exceptional 86% success rate in youth recovery and reintegration programs. But these numbers represent more than just data points; they symbolize restored lives, renewed hopes, and redefined futures for thousands across Nigeria.
At the heart of her impact is her sophisticated risk modeling, which proactively addresses mental health crises and substance abuse epidemics. In Katsina, Bauchi, and Ogun, Owoade’s analytical insights have enabled government and non-profit organizations to detect substance abuse hotspots early, preventing full-scale crises by strategically channeling government resources and community support systems toward targeted prevention and rehabilitation efforts.
Additionally, Owoade’s predictive analytics have profoundly impacted education, significantly reducing dropout rates. In densely populated areas such as Lagos and Osun, her analyses have identified students at risk, facilitating their timely reintegration into school systems.
This intervention, supported by both grassroots efforts and governmental policy, ensures educational continuity and protects vulnerable children from long-term social exclusion.
Dr. Ihunanya Meejay Kanu, Co-Founder and Director of CHESFOUND, recently highlighted the significance of Owoade’s contributions, stating, “Oluwayemisi Owoade has redefined what it means to use data for good. Her commitment has enabled us to act with precision and speed. From mental health rehabilitation to linking the homeless with essential support systems, her insights have fueled every major intervention we’ve made.”
