Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has issued a three-week ultimatum for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to submit a comprehensive inventory of government-owned assets in their custody by May 23.
The directive, approved by the State Executive Council, aims to enable the Department of Asset Management and Recovery to document and manage state assets effectively, curbing misuse, unlawful possession, and abandonment that have led to significant resource losses.
Barr. Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser on Asset Management and Recovery, presented the order to the Head of Service, Dr Innocent Eteng, emphasising urgency. “All Heads of MDAs are enjoined to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves, as His Excellency, the Governor, attaches great importance to this exercise,” Agbor stated. Economic Adviser Prof Peter Oti noted the importance of the inventory for optimal asset utilisation, benefiting the public.
Dr Eteng described the directive as a critical call to action, noting, “The compilation will follow a structured format with proper identification codes for each asset type.” He assured collaboration with MDAs to meet the deadline.
