The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that four people were killed in a shooting at a bar in Makurdi, the state capital, on Sunday, April 27.
The new Commissioner of Police, CP Enemari Ifeanyi, has vowed to crack down on crime, warning that he will not tolerate such acts under his watch.
Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen, suspected to be cultists, stormed a popular bar on Akpehe Road around 8pm in a commando-style attack. The assailants opened fire on patrons, leaving several injured. Initial reports suggested over 10 deaths, but the police have confirmed four fatalities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi on Monday. “The suspected cult attack at Akpehe is confirmed, and investigation has commenced,” she said. “Four persons were confirmed dead, while others are receiving treatment in hospital.”
CP Enemari Ifeanyi has issued a stern warning to criminals, urging them to desist from illegal activities. The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.
