Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and National Coordinator of Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), has cautioned politicians against turning the 2027 general elections into a north-south conflict, warning that personal ambitions must not destabilise Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 27, Alawuje urged leaders to prioritise national unity over selfish goals, stating, “2027 must not be turned into a war between North and South. Those who sow such seeds of division are enemies of Nigeria’s progress.”
He warned that prioritising personal ambition could plant discord reminiscent of the June 12 crisis, risking decades of chaos.
Alawuje advocated for a peaceful power transition by 2031, noting that leadership has shifted to the South after the North’s tenure.
He called attempts to disrupt this balance “dangerously shortsighted” and urged Nigerians to reject tribal, religious, or regional manipulations, saying, “Let history record that we chose unity, justice, and selfless patriotism over ego and selfishness.”
