Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) further depleted yesterday with the defection of the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori and other government officials to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His defection puts to rest speculations about his political direction.
Announcing the defection in Asaba, the state capital, yesterday, Sen James Manager, addressed the press after a meeting of the PDP stakeholders in Government House, said a formal declaration would be made on Monday.
He said the governor’s defection to the ruling party was in the interest of Delta State and its overall development.
Manager declared that the entire PDP structure in the state had collapsed to the APC.
With the current development, Delta has now become an APC state.
Present at the briefing were Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, the immediate past governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker of the state house of assembly, Emomotimi Guor and other PDP stalwarts in the state.
In a related development, a member of the House of Representatives representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, Wole Oke, equally dumped the PDP for APC.
Oke, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, announced his resignation through a letter addressed to the party chairman in Ward 7, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
In the letter dated April 16, 2025, and titled “Resignation of my membership from the People’s Democratic Party,” Oke did not adduce any reason for his resignation.
Though the lawmaker has been having a serious disagreement with Governor Ademola Adeleke, following alleged plans by the governor to work against his return to the House of Reps in 2027.
Oke is known to have stridently faulted some policies and programmes of the state government openly on social media.
The resignation letter reads: “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends. It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” Oke said.
When contacted, Oke declined calls and messages sent to him were not replied.
