Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has warned criminals to stay off, repent or else face baptismal of fire: “We arrested 30 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists and murderers and rescued two victims at Ndi and Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government.
He was addressing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) conference in Abuja: “The command carried out massive raids on criminal hideouts where we arrested the suspects. We have imbibed community policing. We are applying professionalism, discipline and respecting fundamental human rights.
“The command Launched operation UDO GA CHI-zero kidnapping and other violent crimes. It is a proactive template to assuage the fears of the unknown. We are encouraging citizens to have confidence in police. The operation involves police, Army, Navy, Department State Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and Anambra State Vigilance.
“We Ndi Anambra to work with the security agencies in sharing information that may lead to arrest and prosecution of other criminals. During Easter celebration, police rescued two kidnap victims and arrested three notorious kidnappers.
“Operatives at the Police Divisional headquarters, UIi and vigilance group arrested suspects on the Onitsha/Owerri Expressway. The armed criminals abandoned their victims at the scene. Police officers attached to Fegge Divisional headquarters on patrol intercepted a bus parked suspiciously along Port Harcourt Road, Upper Iweka, Onitsha, during search and recovered five pump action guns, eight live cartridges and two handcuffs.
“Operatives of Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested two suspects at Ezeigwe Street, Nkpor IdemiIi North LG. A 33-year-old man was apprehended for alleged serial rape and murder of a 15-year-old boy in Unubi, Nnewi South LG. The same suspect allegedly raped the elder sister of the deceased before he fled the scene.
“Operatives at Oba Divisional Police headquarters and Anambra Vigilance group in joint operation raided an uncompleted building at Isu village. Six suspects who allegedly hired six persons to beg for alms were arrested. Eight two thousand, four hundred naira and six mobile phones were recovered from them.
“Operatives attached to Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station arrested a suspect attempted to take his own life after killing his wife in Ekwulobia. Police Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu Ukwu raided a criminal drug camp at Umuokpala village in Orumba North LG.
“Twelve suspects were arrested. Some sizeable quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, illicit drugs were recovered. Police arrested four suspects threatening people of Ihiala. They were involved in kidnapping, violence and cyber talking. Phones and sim cards used to threaten the victims were recovered.
“Ihiala Divisional operatives two suspects over the murder of 80-year-old. Police arrested 15 suspected kidnappers, members of Aye Confraternity. Four victims including a Catholic Reverend father were rescued. Operatives attached to Obosi Division on intelligence-led patrol along Obosi/Nkpor Expressway arrested two suspects.
“We raided hideouts in Onitsha/ Owerri Expressway, Awka, Akuzu, Igbariam and Abagana. We arrested suspected armed robbers and kidnappers. Operatives attached to 3–3 Divisional headquarters Area arrested a suspect who killed his brother over a minor disagreement. We burst child trafficking syndicate and arrested three suspected fake doctors. Ten children were rescued in an apartment in Inland-tow, Onitsha.
