Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has disclosed that the era of hand-picking Chairmen of Local Government Areas and their Councillors is over in the state.
Idris, however commended them them for their creditable performance since they assumed office in their respective Councils and 225 Wards.
The Governor stated this while speaking with newsmen after consultative meeting with the 21 Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and 225 Councillors in the state , at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, “I am happy about their performance, the chairmen have shown unalloyed loyalty and support to.my administration. The chairmen are the choices of their people to lead them, the era of hand picking candidates is over”,
“Together with their Councillors, they have performed to fruition in steering the affairs of their localities”, Governor Idris said.
He explained that the essence of convening the session was to rub minds together with the Chairmen and councillors to comprehend the problems and challenges at the grassroots.
He said: “Outcome of such fora will guide the government to address such challenges and provide solutions to hasten development.
“My administration is widening consultations with prime stakeholders to facilitate socioeconomic wellbeing of our communities”,
“The chairmen and councillors have reaffirmed confidence in my administration and appreciated the exemplary leadership demonstrated in attaining good governance in Kebbi”, the Governor added.
The Chairmen and Councillors were led to the meeting by the State ALGON Chairman, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa.
Nayaya Ambursa told newsmen afterwards that, the gathering was for the benefit of the people of Kebbi.
He said the governor met with them as great mobilizers of people in the rural areas and moulders of opinion to accelerate the course of development.
“Comrade Nasir Idris is the most compassionate and benevolent leader at the helm of affairs since the creation of Kebbi; he has impacted positively on uplifting the standard of living of our people”,
“We appreciate his leadership style and affirm solidarity, loyalty and support to the incumbent administration”, Nayaya emphasised.
In attendance were, Kebbi APC Chairman, Abubakar Kana Zuru, Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, Commissioner Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari and the State Accountant-General, Muhammad Bello Ibrahim Nahaliku.
