• Insists MDAs, PEBEC must collaborate to foster strong business environment

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima declared on Wednesday an end to buck-passing within government, urging Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) to collaborate for a robust business environment.

Speaking at the close of the PEBEC Retreat in Abuja, Shettima, as PEBEC chair, emphasised President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises ease of doing business to attract investors.

“What PEBEC has demonstrated since its inception is that collaborative governance works,” he said, per a statement by aide Stanley Nkwocha. “We cannot afford the luxury of working in isolation.”

Shettima called for synergy to simplify processes, eliminate red tape, and leverage technology, stating, “The era of bureaucratic turf wars is over… Our citizens are watching. Our investors are waiting.”

He urged MDAs to adopt joint planning, data sharing, and common KPIs, breaking the “not my mandate” culture. “Where conflicts arise, resolve them through dialogue. Where gaps exist, close them with innovation,” he said, advocating for a transparent, responsive government.
