Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called for a focus on citizens in governance. He spoke during a meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at his Kaduna home.

The visit, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, showed unity in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari, through a statement by his aide Garba Shehu, told the governors that leadership brings challenges and chances. Balancing these, he said, can push Nigeria forward. He praised the APC governors’ progress and urged them to keep working for the nation. Plus, he stressed putting people’s needs above personal gain. He cited his own exit from office with unchanged assets as an example.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu’s team for upgrading his Kaduna residence. “The outside looks the same, but inside, it’s much better,” he noted. Buhari welcomed the governors, some familiar, others new to him.

Uzodinma hailed Buhari’s legacy. “Your Excellency, your legacy in Nigerian history is secure. You remain the only opposition candidate to have defeated an incumbent. Your administration gave expression to our party’s core principles through your focus on security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption,” he said.

He added that Tinubu’s bold leadership continues this path.

The visit, Uzodinma explained, marked Eid-el-Fitr. “We came to greet you and convey our heartfelt gratitude and enduring respect for your immense contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and strengthening our party,” he said. He recalled Buhari’s key role in founding the APC and his recent support for the party.

Uzodinma praised Buhari’s achievements. “Your efforts reclaimed territory from insurgents, extended social investment programmes like the Conditional Cash Transfer and School Feeding Program, and ushered in a road and rail revolution that is still bearing fruit,” he said. He also noted the Anchor Borrowers Scheme’s impact on food security.

Today, Uzodinma said, the APC thrives under Tinubu. “His leadership is bold, reform-driven, and unshakably committed to progress,” he added. Buhari’s recent endorsement of Tinubu showed humility and continuity. The visit highlighted Buhari’s lasting influence and push for unity in the APC.
