The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State has seized 55.947 kilogrammes of various illicit substances and arrested 112 suspects between January and March 2025.
State Commander Peter Ogar disclosed this in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Wednesday, 9 April 2025. He said the arrests and seizures took place across multiple locations in the state during the first quarter.
“The command also counselled 59 suspects within this period—45 males and 14 females, aged 21 to 76,” Ogar stated. “In total, we arrested 112 suspects—85 males and 27 females, aged 16 to 76—including drug dealers, users, and traffickers.”
Ogar listed the seized drugs: “These include Cannabis Sativa, 43.582kg; Tramadol tablets, 0.004kg; Tramadol 100mg (1,189 capsules), 0.400kg; Diazepam, 988 tablets, 0.207kg; monkey tail, 11.2 litres or 11.2kg; methamphetamine, 0.054kg; Bromazepam, 46 tablets, 0.020kg; Pentazocine injections, 84 amps, 0.244kg; heroin, 0.014kg; and other psychotropic substances, totalling 55.947kg.” He added that four individuals were convicted during this time.
He highlighted a key operation. “The command arrested one suspect with a locally fabricated pistol during a raid and transferred them to the police for further action,” Ogar said. He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and urged stakeholders to offer more support to curb the illegal activity.
Ogar also outlined awareness efforts. “We have organised a series of workshops and sensitisation campaigns against drug abuse across Ebonyi’s 13 local government areas, focusing especially on youths and secondary school students,” he explained.
