The highly anticipated Commissioner’s Cup Final 2025 came to a thrilling conclusion at the San Siro Stadium in Ipaja, Alimosho LGA of Lagos.
The championship ended amidst fanfare, with Dr Watts emerging as the champion after beating Trade Safe FC 8-7 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
In the third-place match, Gunners FA fought back to beat De Gracia FC 5-3 on penalties, after both teams squared it up 1-1. The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bolaji Ogunlemde, commended the organisers for resuscitating the tournament, 23 years after it was last played. He promised state support for good initiatives like the Commissioner’s Cup, aimed at discovering talents.
The sponsor, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, expressed elation with the standard exhibited during the tournament and pledged to give the facilities at San Siro a facelift for the betterment of youths in Alimosho.
The winning team, Dr Watts, took home ₦500,000, while the runners-up, Trade Safe FC, received ₦250,000, and the third-best team, Gunners FA, got ₦150,000. Individual awards were also presented to the Best Player, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper.
