Former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, Dachung Bagos, has decried the spate of killings Bokkos Local Government of Plateau State.
Bagos, who represented Jos South/Jos East federal constituency of Plateau State, in the 9th and 10th House, in a statement, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dafwam Yaks, condemned the recent killing of 12 persons by suspected herders in Bokkos local government area.
The former lawmaker, while urging the federal government to intensify efforts in securing lives and property of the people in the local government and state generally, implored the National Assembly to expedite action on the creation of state police.
He said said this is necessary to enable state governments and local communities take care of their security needs.
Bagos, who condoled with the families affected by the killings, commended Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for demonstrating capacity and showing ” compassion by his visit to the affected areas, offering sympathy to grieving families and reaffirming his commitment to addressing the security challenges.
The former lawmaker also ” called upon the federal government to intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens in Plateau state, acknowledging the urgent need for adequate policing and protection”.
Furthermore , he “urged local communities to unite in their efforts to protect one another, emphasizing the importance of community strength as outlined in Nigeria’s constitution.
“In this moment of mourning, Hon. Bagos extends his heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and pray for healing for those who are hospitalised. It is a time for solidarity and collective strength as the community seeks to recover and support one another”.
